An editor process the footage assumed by the cinematographer and develop a final production using various techniques and effects during the process. During the progression, I began practicing my editing skills on Final Cut Pro before I began to edit, this was followed by observing YouTube videos of how professionals edit. While observing I gained knowledge on various new skills (will be discussed more lately on the Journal) which I have tested on our production and eventually gave effective results. The main task as the editor involved executing the footage into perfection, while communicating with the director and the cinematographer to check if any problems has arisen.

Using Final Cut Pro came rather easy to me due to past experience of using the software, as well as new developed traits on top of my qualities using the software. My journey began receiving footage filmed by our cinematographer which led on me examining the shots that will be most effective in our production. As the cinematographer provided me with a variety of shots, to limit down my options I began to remove any footage that was either unnecessary/out of focus/lacks flow. Ultimately it left me with effective shots which I immediately started to add on the timeline in chronological order. As shown in the first scene, a variety of shots has been used such as a close up of Kyle's face portraying his manifest of lies to Olivia, a two shot presenting a clear set of mind to the audience immediately that they are in a relationship. I decided to use a variety of shots in the beginning to avoid the audience missing out reactions or important information given from the characters such as text messages from Kyle's phone while completely ignoring Olivia. During the constant viewing, I made a note of which shots that will need re filming or shots than needs to be taken, I communicated with both the director and cinematographer about this problem and that managed to achieve the required shots that was needed.

My role as the editor also consisted to be more flexible using a range of applications and thinking outside the box to achieve the very best for our production.  Adobe audition is an application that came across my mind when we needed the voiceover to sound more realistic, although I was inexperienced in using the software I managed to read and learn more about the software eventually producing what I wanted. I needed the software to transfer the voice of Kyle as if he was speaking on the phone, Adobe Audition allowed me to transfer the voiceover as a phone call increasing the realism of our production.

During my role as the editor, I have encountered several problems that I eventually managed to resolve. As the cinematographer filmed the news footage I've noticed that the sound levels was disturbed by the background noises coming from the cars, to resolve this I changed this by attaining the audio of the news footage and inserting it as a MP3 file so the audience can hear the news footage loud and clearly.  Another problem that I had encountered was the lighting in some scenes, while in the opening scene the lighting changed constantly as the room started to get darker which was a huge problem, to resolve this problem I decided to change the lighting to match the scene after as if both scenes have the same lighting.
